Growing up as a dark-skinned girl, I got teased with all sorts of nicknames because of my complexion. It felt like girls who were light-skinned were the ones people considered as beautiful while those of us that were ‘black’ in color were the ugly ones.
In fact, I was also very skinny and that made me feel even more insecure in my body and resulted in a negative body image.
I recently had the opportunity to be a keynote speaker where I addressed the topic: Beauty and Body Image and its Impact on Mental Health. I shared my own story in detail and how I overcame my struggles as a young lady.
Today, I am still dark skinned but I love myself so much for it! Find out how I discovered my true beauty and overcame low self esteem and body shaming.
